Instructions for Out of Town Patients
If you are traveling from out of town to New York City for cosmetic surgery, then we have specialized instructions to make the process easier for our patients. Gotham Plastic Surgery is located in the middle of the city on Park Avenue, and you can reach our offices in less than 30 minutes from local airports. Staying nearby is easy because there are numerous restaurants, hotels and retail establishments that will provide the amenities and items needed during your stay. Our office staff is able to assist patients who are arriving from other areas of the United States or from other countries, and there is a staff member available who speaks Spanish.
Planning Guide
Patients should know what to pack before they travel for their cosmetic surgery. It is quite difficult to shop after an invasive procedure. The office staff at Gotham Plastic Surgery can answer any questions about aftercare so you can be fully prepared for your post-operative care.
For surgical procedure, you are going to need to remain in bed with limited walking for one or more days, depending on the size of your incisions and the exact type of surgery. Each individual recovers differently, and one person might require a longer recovery time than another person.
Plan to pack nightwear such as pajamas or nightgowns along with warm socks and undergarments that are comfortable enough to wear in bed on a 24-hour basis. If you are having an invasive procedure such as breast augmentation, reduction or reconstruction, then you will need a compression garment or supportive brassiere. It is important to choose the sizes of the garments carefully because a cosmetic procedure may lead to needing larger or smaller undergarments, slacks or shirts. Stretchy garments made of soft, washable fabrics with elastic waistbands or adjustable straps are an appropriate choice.
If you are having a facial procedure such as lip augmentation or wrinkle reduction with Botox injections, then your skin may become sensitive, making it impossible to wear makeup for a few days. At the same time, if you do go outside during the daytime in bright sunlight, then you must protect your skin with a high quality but gentle sunscreen lotion or cream.
The hotel room where you are staying will probably have a television, but you may want to bring along a small CD player and CDs to listen to music while resting, or if you enjoy reading, then bring along books and magazines. When you are undergoing a surgical procedure, you likely will not want to go sightseeing because of your discomfort, but a patient having a nonsurgical procedure such as skin resurfacing is able to travel around New York City when a surgeon provides permission.
Accommodations
Before arriving in New York City, we recommend making reservations at a nearby hotel, and you can also inform them of your reason for visiting the area. It is important to remember that when you undergo a cosmetic procedure that you might need specialty care during your recovery. Patients undergoing an invasive procedure might need to rest on a 24-hour basis for several days, so bringing along a close friend or relative is highly recommended. This is the person who can help you during the recovery process, including bringing you meals or contacting us if an emergency occurs.
